Green Schools Consortium UW Milwaukee
WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE 8TH ANNUAL GREEN & HEALTHY SCHOOLS CONFERENCE!
The annual Green & Healthy Schools Conference is an ideal opportunity to connect with the Milwaukee area's greener, healthier schools movement. The conference is an opportunity to hear inspirational stories, connect with curricular and funding resources, and learn how schools in the Milwaukee area are removing asphalt and enhancing their schoolyards with outdoor classrooms, improved recreation, arts, green infrastructure, and project-based learning.
This year we are working with the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee to host the annual conference with presentations, breakout sessions, tours, and an exhibitor area. The conference is open to all and is an excellent opportunity to connect with some of your favorite community partners.

Apply to CAC Mini-Grants Today
Apply today and help us reach deeper into communities this summer.
Your partnership will help bring community voice to this important work. We are seeking partnerships with organizations who are connected to the neighborhoods surrounding the cleanup and enhancement projects of the AOC or with organizations who actively use the river and greenways of the AOC.
We seek to fund community partners (non-profit organizations) up to $5,000 each to perform the following activities. In the end we would love a few hundred word summary of your work and a few photos to share on social media to help spread the word and grow our collective voice.
Dredged Material Management Facility Walking Tours
Sediment in our waterways is contaminated with chemicals that are present from a long history of industrial uses in the surrounding areas. Though the contaminated sediment has been in our waterways for decades, if we do not remove it many of the issues that define the Milwaukee Estuary as an Area of Concern will continue to exist. Join us for a walking tour on Monday, June 13 to learn more about the future Dredged Material Management Facility and see where most of the contaminated material from Milwaukee’s rivers is planned to be placed. Tours will leave every 10 minutes from 5:30-7:00 PM.
Registration is not required but we encourage you to sign up for a tour time to help us with planning!
Meet at the Port Milwaukee Administration Building (2323 S. Lincoln Memorial Drive). Parking is available in the Port Milwaukee Administration Building parking lot.
Cleaning Up Our Toxic Legacy: Milwaukee River Greenway
Virtual Public Meeting
Join us to learn about the planned clean up of contaminated material in the Milwaukee River Greenway and in various sanitary sewer pipes near the Greenway. Find out why the cleaning of Milwaukee’s waterways is important, what planning efforts are underway, the results of contaminated soils sampling in the floodplain areas along the east and west sides of the river between Estabrook Dam and the former North Avenue Dam, and what to expect when an upcoming sanitary sewer cleanup project along Humboldt Avenue between Capitol Drive and Locust Avenue begins. This community meeting is part of a larger initiative to clean up the Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern (AOC).
Check back for upcoming events.
